Harmonie Concert Band was established in 1976 (as the Basildon Concert Band) and now comprises about 50 musicians.
The objectives of the band are:
- to enable musicians of all ages to come and make music, for the enjoyment of themselves and others.
- to strive continuously to improve each individual’s understanding and performance and in turn the overall quality and sonority of the band.
- to play all types and styles of music.
- to develop a quality Band that is an asset to the local community.
We are always keen to attract new players – brass, woodwind and percussion – and all are assured of a warm welcome. Auditions are not required; new members are encouraged to just come along and sit in at rehearsals. While Section Principals are Grade 8 standard or above, as a guide, ABRSM or Trinity Grade 5 or equivalent would be a good starting point, but the main prerequisites are enthusiasm to make music with others and to improve one’s own musical ability. Join us!
We have an extensive library of over 600 pieces of music, and new items are always being added, so there are always new challenges for the players, and a wide variety of programmes can be provided for concert and event organisers.
In recent years we have taken part in a number of events – see our history page.
Host venues often use us as a vehicle for fundraising for their cause and in the last few years, we have helped to raise thousands of pounds for various charities. We are always keen to play at new venues so please contact our Concert Manager if you would like to find out more or book us.
In recent years we have been lucky enough to receive grants from both Grassroots Grant managed by the Essex Community Foundation and Petroplus.
We are always looking for sponsors of events so please contact the Secretary if you can help – enquiries@Harmonie.org.uk
